神秘老妪——自燃火种

　　2001年8月1日，家住杭州市萧山区瓜沥镇88岁的农妇颜文英正准备做饭，可没等点火，灶后的木柴突然就着了火。从此，她的家属就收掉了她所有可能成为火种的东西，并禁止她使用火种。

　　此后，只要老太太感觉身体发热，周围的东西就会着火，着火的时间都在白天。起初是隔一天着一次火，随后是每天都要着火，15天内这样的自燃在颜家发生了15次；后来，竟是一天着几次火。不仅她自己身上穿的衣服莫名其妙地自燃，连她用过的、摸过的东西也会着火，哪怕是刚洗过的衣服也会突然燃烧起来。

　　为防意外，村里为老太太配备了灭火器。

An Old Woman Becomes a Mysterious Tinder

　　On August l, 2001, when Yan Wenying, an 88-year-old woman peasant who lived in Guali Town in Xiaoshan District of Hangzhou City, was preparing to do the cooking, some of firewood behind the kitchen range was suddenly on fire. From then on, her family kept all things that can be tinders out of her reach and forbided her to use any of them.

　　After this, things around her would start to burn so long as she felt a fever. At first, the fire happened in daytime, once every two days. Then the fire happened once a day: such fires occurred 15 times in her home in 15 days. Later on, fires occurred several times a day. Not only the clothes she wore burned spontaneously without reason but the things which she touched or used would burn suddenly, even clothes she just washed.

　　In order to avoid the accident fire, the village leader provided a fire extinguisher for her to put down the fire on her.

啃光了自己10个手指的女孩

　　2003年9月20日，西安霸桥区下双寨村5岁的女童媛媛的两只手已没有一根手指。因为，3年来她每天偷偷啃咬自己的手指。

　　远离父母的媛媛小时候摔过一次跤，脚上受了伤，后来就烂了一个洞，不时流脓，不能正常走路。2岁时，持续发烧不退，四处求医都没治好，后来到霸桥区一家医院住了28天，终于退了烧。可回家不久，她爷爷发现媛媛总是偷偷把手塞在嘴里啃，给她拽出来，不一会儿她又开始啃。晚上睡觉时，她就在被窝里啃手指，常弄得被窝里血淋淋的。“3年来，娃先是啃食指，后来是无名指、小指头，慢慢都啃完了。媛媛的脑子挺正常的。”爷爷说。

　　2004年8月中旬，宝鸡市解放军第三医院确认她患的是遗传性感觉神经根神经病，全世界仅报道过8例。这是一种控制和冲动障碍，患者不能控制自己吃与不吃东西。

The Girl Who Gnaws Her 10 Fingers 

　　On September 20, 2003, the remains of a 5-year-old girl’s two hands were found to be nothing but two palms with no finger. The girl named Yuanyuan lives in Xiashuangzhai Village, which belongs to Baqiao District of Xi’an City, China. The reason why this strange thing took place is that she gnawed stealthily her fingers every day for 3 years and eaten gradually her 10 fingers.

　　Yuanyuan fell down when she was a baby. Her feet were injured. The wound got infected. Pus ran out of it often. So she could not walk normally. At an age of 2, when she had a fever and it lasted for many days, she was taken to doctors. But her fever was not cured. Then she was hospitalized. After 28 days her fever was gone. But her grandfather found that Yuanyuan often put her fingers into her mouth stealthily soon after she came home. If her grandfather or grandmother pulled them out, she would put them in again and started to gnaw them soon. When she slept in the night, she also gnawed them under her sleeping quilt, so, her quilt was often stained with blood. In recent 3 years, Yuanyuan first gnawed her index finger, then the ring finger and then the little finger. Later on, her 10 fingers were gnawed gradually.Yuanyuan’s grandfather said that she has normal brains. 

　　In mid August 2004, the No.3 Hospital of PLA in Baoji City affirmed that she contracted a hereditary disease from her sensory nerve’s root nerve. Only 8 cases have been reported in the world. This is a barrier of control and impulse. The patient can’t control oneself to eat or not to eat things.
